Hi Oni,

Spitfire FMs are all leftover from the previous era so they have not been looked at yet afaik.
As they were not considered to be totally awful, other FMs more in need of updating have been looked at first.

The corsairs are probably worth a look also..
Spitfires and corsairs are mostly what I see flying these days which usually a good sign there is something to be looked at.

Yes, might be a relative change due to the other FMs being more accurate now.

I have started remodeling the Spitfire series, will just have to finish a few other fighters series first. I'm hoping to have all the Spits revised during the Spring of 2018 :-).

Robert.. All seems current now in the LA.. For 20 years the Spit XIV was a dog. It was the plane nobody flew.. Now it has some legs regardless of what anyone may say, it is having its moment after years of FM abuse and neglect.. I have offered up flight test reports on this particular AC some years ago and it now performs close to what was reported back in the day. Cheers!

True, it should actually be one of the 2-3 "best" piston fighters in the game for sure, together with the FW-190D and probably the P-51D.
If one can believe Eric Brown... ;)

The new Hellcat is fun, too!
Nice and stable now.

Oh, and the Veltro!

People like to bash him but what a phenomenal record as a test pilot...
487 a/c types flown
2407 carrier deck landings
First to land a mosquito on a carrier
First to land a jet on a carrier
Then went to Germany after the surrender to check out and test fly all their advanced machinery.

You would like to think that he knew a thing or two and is not necessarily biased... as he clearly says the FW190D was one of, if not the best

I certainly did not mean to bash E.B. (don't think you said so, but still, just to clarify)

His writings about his testing german aircraft seems very credible/plausible to me (as a non aviator).
Also his 1vs1 duels / comparisons (if hypothetic in parts) seem to be to the point (and may also be an indicator of the current F4U's FM to be a bit too agile,
in comparison to much lighter fighters as the FW-190, this as oen of the hypothetical dogfights he analyses in his book).
It's fun to try to fit this into one's own "experiences" within the sim :-)

An extraodrinary life this man had.

<S> robert and bollock for all the hard work. I like what I'm seeing so far.
However, for some reason quite a few of the aircraft engine sounds do not work since the newer updates.
All other sounds seem fine.
Not sure if it's just my system or because I'm on a Mac.
Has anyone else had this issue?

My work around is to toss the sound files for these aircraft from the WB sounds folder, then it reverts to a default engine sound.
That will be fine to get me through the S3s. Last time I got caught out in the first sortie when flying the 109 G14. Don't really realize how much you depend on the engine sound until it's not there.

I tested all the fighters and most of the bombers and this is a list of the ones that don't work on my system:

BF109 G14 ASM
BF 109 G-6
BF 109 G-6 RV/1
BF 109 K-4
BF 109 K-4 RV/1
C202 SIII Folgere
C202 SVII Folgere
C205 Veltro
J2M2 Jack
J2M3 Jack
Ki-84-la Frank
Mig-3
N1K1 J George
P40b
Sea Hurricane 1B
Spitfire IXa

I use Bommel sounds and a couple of customs ones which I have to copy and paste back after every update.

the .txt file just assigns the file path to the sound for each function.
the .wav sound files themselves are located in the sounds/default folder.

Open with notepad... what does the n1k1.txt file say in your sounds folder for example?

It should have something that looks like this.
0,RADIAL4
1,30CAL1
2,20MM1

now open sounds/default and try to play the radial4.wav file.

Thanks Bollock.

After investigating per your instructions. (I opened txt file for p40b and it says INLINE7) It appears there is no INLINE7 in my default folder. Even after doing latest download. Only inlines 1 through 3 are in there. Thus the reason the 109G14 doesn't work. No INLINE6 either.

Not sure why my downloader doesn't bring in those engine sounds.

Any place I can get the complete Default Sounds folder somewhere?

For now I just made the p40b text say INLINE3
