Does anyone know if this aircraft has any history behind it?
I know it is a restored aircraft and flew in "Battle of Britain".
I want to know if it had these colors and markings in the
war and what date it flew.

Thanks!

German markings can be quite complicated at first.

A German "fighter squadron" or Jagdgeschwader was more like the size of an RAF or USAAF "wing"

Each JG had maybe 3 Groups
Each Group would have a staff / command flight at the top called a Stab.
Each Group would be subdivided into something like 4 Staffelen
Each Staffelen would be made up of 3 or 4 "schwarm" or flights of 4 planes (NB: each staffeln is about the size of an ALLIED fighter squadron!)
Each Flight would be divided into pairs (rotten)

Behind the "cross" you have the GROUP marking
Before the cross you have the STAFFELN ID and / or if your command /staff status if any
Each Staffeln was colour coded.
On the nose or side you would have the JG identifier "logo"

The markings in this picture show its "2 Group, 2nd Staffel, Plane no. 7

To actually answer your question, this was originally a Spanish built Buchon converted into a G4 with DB605A engine.

Here you can see

JG53 logo/ID on the cowling
Straight bar behind the cross meaning "2 Group"
The arrow in front of the cross denotes pilot rank is "Group Adjutant".

If you recall each Gruppe has
1. A Stab (command staff flight of 4 planes)
2. 3 or 4 Staffeln (normal flights of 4 planes each)

Bollok,

D-FWME ...

The Airbus Group and the Flugmuseum Messerschmitt at Manching, Bavaria, present their Bf 109G-4 coded 'Red 7' for the second time at the Air Tattoo this year. The aircraft is in fact a former Spanish-built, Merlin-engined Hispano Buchón, probably built in 1950. It served with the Spanish Air Force until 1965 and then flew in the filming of 'The Battle of Britain'. The airframe passed through many owners until its 1997 purchase by the Messerschmitt Aircraft Company (MAC) at Albstadt-Degerfeld, Germany. During their restoration it was converted to Bf 109G-4 standard with the Daimler-Benz DB605A engine typical of the original German fighter.

So original aircraft was built in 1050. What I guess is that it was painted as a historical 109.
This doesn't say. Any way to determine is there was a real WWII plane in these colors?
Was there a pilot name or date associated with the historical 109? If it is not historical,
should I paint it anyway? As ...

2 Group, 2nd Staffel, "Rote Sieben"

Thanks,

Art

I noticed several of your images in some posts I looked at yesterday are not showing up.
A tiny broken document image is all I see.

Anyway, thanks a lot. I want to keep my spray paint fingers busy or I'll develop skinner's
arthritis.

Me again,

I've been painting "Red 7" and I was wondering if there
can be a clone made of the 109 G2 and turn it into a G4?

Doesn't the G2 make into a G4 better than any other?
The G2 and G4 don't have an Erla cockpit.
Just remove the nose cannon from the G2.

Hmm, we already have 13 different Bf 109 versions, more than any other fighter series. Dunno if a G-4 would add much gameplay wise since we have the G-2, G-6, G-6/RVI and G-14/ASM in the roster. You've made a beautiful skin though so we can maybe give the skin to the G-6? (More competitive version than the G-2).

Btw off topic about Corsairs... I see the F4U-1A and F4U-1D have several really nice skins, but the F4U-4 has only a single default skin. Would it be historically accurate to copy some of the F4U-1 skins to the F4U-4? Or is it better to create unique skins for it?

Yeah enough 109s in the stable already.
F4U-4 is a different 3d model.

I'll look at the F4U-4. I won't promise anything, especially because ...

I don't want the plane used in this way in the game:

The pilot took 4 hours to get out of the plane. He was too embarrassed and waited until dark to climb out.

How about a Korean War F4U-4 flown by Medal of Honor pilot Captain Thomas Hudner, VF32?
