Thank you Robert and iart7 for the update and awesome skins <S> Looking forward to trying them out! Just one thing... Ki-43-Ic was armed with two 12.7 mm machine guns(Ho 103). It's Ki-43-Ib that had one 12.7 mm gun and one 7.7 mm gun. |

The 2x 12.7 mm loadout for the Ki-43-Ic seems to be a common misconception. The author in the link below goes truly in depth on the armament of the Ki-43-I's, comparing Japanese ww2 documents and Japanese official ammunition expenditure numbers etc for the Ki-43-I units. These documents seem to strongly support the ammo expenditure you would get using a combo of the 7.7 mm and the 12.7 mm. It seems there is no evidence that the prefixes -Ia, -Ib, and -Ic were linked to the armament, and the Ki-43-I's were often retrofitted in the field. The early version of the 12.7 mm machine gun was quite unreliable, and as such pilots rather used one of each. There where 2x 12.7 mm equipped Ki-43-I's operating. Major Tateo Kato was one of those who used 2x 12.7 mm to encourage his men to put more trust in this weapon, and had his mechanic pay close attention to the maintenance of his guns to prevent mailfunction. However planes with this loadout seem to have been a minority, with the vast majority of Ki-43-Ic's in operation using the 7.7 mm / 12.7 mm combo. (The ammo loadout being 500 & 270 rnds respectively). Very good read about the Ki-43-I armament in this link: https://www.warbirdforum.com/rdunn43.htm Cheers sir! /Robert |
