What to expect ? No not dragons exactly..... but expect all new machines that spit fire... Also a new "water based dragon" is born. More pesky insects... but these ones will bite your head not just your feet. |

Ant plans to redo the Yak 3 and 9? The 3 doesnt seem to match up with accounts of its speed and maneuverability.. has it ever been redone? Imagine the 9 needs a look at too.. |

Both the Yak-3 and Yak-9D were fully rebuilt in FL2046 and have recieved some minor tweaks since then: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=171 They should hit all the performance data regarding top speeds, climb rate, stall speed, roll rate etc. The Yaks had a quite high stall speed which gives them a large turning radius. This is due to their small wings with a wing area of only 159.8 sqft for the Yak-3, and 185.1 sqft for the much heavier Yak-9D. Compare this to a Spitfire's 242 sqft. The yaks were also a bit underpowered, their Klimov VK-105PF-2 engine producing only max 1300 hp at WEP. This can also be compared to a Spitfire IXe Merlin 66 engine providing 1740 hp at 9400 ft at WEP. What makes the Yak-3 quite agile though is it's very low weight for a mid/late war fighter, enabling it to out turn several late war fighters despite it's small wings and "weak" engine. I find it fairly competitive when flown to it's strengths in the Legacy arena, especially before the latest war fighters (P-51D/Fw190D/La7 etc) are out. Are there any special areas where you find it underperform compared to historical performance data, sir? Be aware that the most common speed data one finds on internet and many books are from the prototype "Yak-1M Doblyor" P.R. test version trials. This plane reached around 355 mph at sea level and 404 mph at best altitude, but the actual production versions of the Yaks that were delivered to Russian combat units were generally 15-20 mph slower than the super slimmed "Doblyor" propaganda plane. The Yaks in Warbirds are based on the actual combat fighters with a top speed of 384 mph at 13000 ft. Cheers ![]() /Robert |

Hi Robert. Thanks for the update on the Yak3 and the modeling of it in game with the Klimov VK-105PF. I had been reading some accounts of them but it was with the Klimov VK-107 powerplant not the 105.. I also remember how this plane performed in WB2 and it was a faster leaner killin machine back then.. Has a bit of a snap to it you have to watch out for now but if you guys are happy with it then fine. Was just wanting to know where it stood in the realm of updated FM's. Thanks!! |

Happy to help ![]() And as Bollok said, except for a brand new Yak-9U the next update will feature a Seafire Mk III and two brand new Mosquitos for late war RPS's. Faster and meaner than ever. Expect the new update around the second week of February. <S> /Robert |
