The October 2018 event "THE WINDS OF CHANGE" covers the 1942 period and somewhat honour the Bomber Crews of WW2.

Phase 1 - "Target for Tonight"

Overview :
The bombing campaign against Germany begins. The RAF bomb by night and the USAF bomb by day... the LW await them-.
Join us on Saturday 6th October to experience what it was like to fly a crewed up Lancaster Bomber into occupied German territory by night.....all alone.
Join us on Sunday 7th October to experience what it was like to escort B17's into occupied German territory by day...

Event Details :
This event is a must for any warbirds bomber pilot.
There will NO allied fighters on Saturday 6th. (Spitfire escorts will be available on Sunday 7th for the B17s)
This is designed as a simulation of the type of terror and stresses that a bomber command crew might have undergone on a typical raid.

Saturday 6th October @8pm UK time:

RAF
Once the crews are assembled (somewhere in Lincolnshire, 1942) the pilots will receive their mission briefing.
Weather, cloud cover, bombing alt, bomb loadout and required fuel load.
Soon afterwards, their Lancaster Bombers will form up and take off into the night sky at 1 minute intervals. (called by the CM)
However the crews will take off without knowing the actual target ….and without GPS map positioning!

All crews will be required to follow a series of "HUD Grid reference waypoints" (called by the CM) in order to successfully navigate to the actual target.
This will be unfamiliar and add to the pilot stress.... though not difficult once you have the hang of it.

The specific time over target (TOT) will be given by the CM.
All bomber crews must arrive over the final target area within +15 minutes of the specified TOT time and not before.

Bombers must then return to their home field and land safely.
It is requested that all landed bomber crews taxi to hardstands and await their compatriots return, counting them in one by one.
(Kick to tower upon landing is disabled in EMC arena)

NB: Any straggler bomber crews arriving over target outside the TOT time will be far more succeptible to the German night fighters!

LUFTWAFFE
Luftwaffe night fighters will be operating....however they will have a delayed take off time of T+45

They have free reign to intercept and harass the bombers... ….but also without GPS map positioning!
The CM will instead direct the night fighters to patrol zones by "HUD GRID reference waypoints" where they can hope to establish visual contact with the bomber stream

They are free to harass the bombers as long as they are able but must not follow the bombers over the north sea past the "5" vertical line.

HUD NAVIGATION - DONT PANIC!
Its fairly easy to navigate by HUD GRID reference once you familiarise.
The first number is the EAST vector
The second number is the NORTH vector.

6.41, 2.34 means

>EAST of the 6 line on the map (0.41 or 41% of the way ACROSS the grid)

^NORTH of the 2 line on the map (0.34 or 34% of the way UP the grid)

HOW DO I KNOW IF IM GOING THE RIGHT DIRECTION ??
if the first set of numbers gets BIGGER you are going EAST
if the first set of numbers gets smaller you are going WEST
if the second set of numbers gets BIGGER you are going NORTH
if the second set of numbers gets smaller you are going SOUTH
and so on..

SCORING
Bomber command success will be determined by many factors
Pilots ability to navigate to the correct target
Pilots ability to arrive with 15 mins of the TOT time
Pilots BDA score (bomb damage assessment)
Pilots ability to safety bring his crew back to base

Luftwaffe Success will be solely determined by no. of aircraft destroyed vs losses.

You may view ALL the STATS here.
https://www.errthum.com/troy/warbirds/emc2/

SUMMARY
On Saturday night brave crews from Bomber command attacked the Port of Wilhelmshaven.
All Lancaster crews safely returned to home base after 103 minutes in the air.
48 unique structures were totally destroyed by 3 crews.
The mission was deemed a total success with extensive damage done to the docks including three Uboats sunk.

On Sunday morning fighters from the RAF escorted USAF B17s on a daylight raid to Diepholz.
Despite 2 runs over the target the mission was aborted due to cloud cover obscuring the target.
Twelve B17 crews were lost: picked off by the Luftwaffe's fighters as the RAF fighters became stretched and low on fuel.
Their mission is therefore classed as a failure.

Welcome back to RAMPON - now flying as "Rafair"

The only surviving ACE from PHASE 1 is "+bolok"
> 6 confirmed kills for no losses,
> 15 ground objects destroyed and 21 damaged.

Top BDA destruction was caused by "Brylin"
> 30 ground objects destroyed and 55 damaged.

Top performing LW pilot was "Rabbii" who downed 6 bombers and a Spitfire....

We now move to PHASE 2...
